The ShadeDweller 7% UV-B has been designed around the needs of crepuscular species such as Leopard Geckos.The fixture is intended to be placed at a distance of 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) from the basking spot. This positioning allows the animal to obtain essential UV energy in a safe and effective manner.
However, for those who keep these species in smaller or more shallow enclosures where the optimal distance for the ShadeDweller 7% UV-B is not achievable or keep crepuscular Arboreal species and choose to decorate the top of the enclosure, the ShadeDweller-Arboreal 2.4% fitting becomes a better choice.
The ShadeDweller-Arboreal 2.4% has been designed to be safe and effective for use over standard meshed topped enclosures, as well as inside vivariums where the planting and decoration is close to the lamp. The ShadeDweller-Arboreal 2.4% Kit provides the ideal UVI (UV Index) for shade dwelling species, like Crested Geckos and those falling into Ferguson zones 1-2, to benefit fully from activated colour vision and the naturally effective D3 cycle, safely. The average life of a D3 UV Basking Lamp is around 6,000 hours or 8 months of continuous usage. Mercury vapour bulbs are exactly what they sound like, glass bulbs filled with mercury vapour which project a full spectrum light. Mercury Vapour bulbs are safe when they are kept intact, given sufficient room and hung in a vertical position. the vertical position allows convection currents to circulate within the bulb, prolonging its lifespan.
